A Sundanese Wedding

oke, im am gonna bring it back on track with this one…

Weddings in Indonesia reflect the broad diversity of ethnic groups within Indonesia. Each ethnic group and has their own culture, language and customs, therefore different wedding dress and different marriage ceremonies.

Im a novice when it comes to Sundanese culture, to be honest I didn’t fully understand what was happening and why. My cousin Mas Tessa wedding was pretty cool, kinda long but definitely interesting.

The first ceremony is the Siraman or Bathing Ceremony. Siraman means to take a bath. This ritual is to clean the couple – their bodies as and their souls. The Siraman ceremony usually takes place one day prior to the Ijab (religious ceremony) and other traditional ceremonies.

The place of the Siraman can take place in a the family bathroom or in a place specially designed for the purpose.

The people who should bath the couple are the parents, close family members and elderly distinguished women who are selected due to their good moral behaviour.

And they also cut his hair!

and to end it all they smash the pot. bang!
